Hurricane shutters and storm screens for League City homes
The League City houses we work on are brick and stucco on suburban lots, with arched windows, back walls of glass facing the pool and a lot of openings to cover. We drive up I-45 from our Galveston showroom to measure every one, and our own crew comes back to install.

Storm protection 25 miles up I-45
League City is the largest city in Galveston County, spread along Clear Creek, Magnolia Bayou and Cowart's Creek on the mainland side of the bay. The Gulf is out of sight from most of it, but the same storms reach it. When Hurricane Ike came ashore over Galveston Island on September 13, 2008, League City lost power with the rest of the county, and CenterPoint warned residents that restoring it could take four weeks or more.
That is why so many of our League City jobs are protection that stays on the house and closes without power. TAPCO screens show up on more of them than any other product: stainless steel mesh in an aluminum frame that stays over the window all year and blocks up to 90% of the sun's heat between storms. Roll-down shutters cover the back walls of glass, and Bahama and accordion shutters take care of the rest.
Most of League City is in Galveston County, which puts it inside the area the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association covers. If impact windows are on your list, TWIA requires a certificate of compliance from the Texas Department of Insurance for new windows, entry doors and garage doors. The slice of the city north of Clear Creek is in Harris County and sits outside TWIA's area.

Four League City houses and what we put on them
Each one comes from a League City job in our files. We measure every opening on its own, so one house can end up with more than one of these.
Stucco with arched windows
TAPCO screens are built for the arch, stay up all year and keep the view. Nothing to put up when a storm turns toward the coast, and the stainless mesh doubles as security when you travel.
A wall of glass facing the pool
Roll-down shutters cover a whole back wall from a switch, a remote or your phone, and roll up out of sight into a box over the opening the rest of the year.
A brick house with standard windows
Bahama shutters shade the glass every afternoon and fold down flat over it for a storm. Accordions do the storm job for less and stay folded at the sides.
One big opening on a budget
Hurricane fabric is lighter than metal panels, rolls up for storage and fits irregular shapes. We were fastening a panel over a League City window in one of the photos below.

Do you come out to League City for estimates?
Yes. League City is about 25 miles up I-45 from our showroom at 902 51st St in Galveston, well inside our 50-mile service area. A specialist comes to the house, measures every opening and prices the products you choose in writing, free. Our own crew does the install.
Does my League City house need a windstorm certificate for new windows?
If the house is on the Galveston County side of Clear Creek and you insure it through TWIA, plan on one. TWIA lists windows, entry doors and garage doors among the work that needs a certificate of compliance from the Texas Department of Insurance (a WPI-8). The part of League City north of Clear Creek is in Harris County, which is outside TWIA's coverage area. Bring it up at the estimate and we will go over what your house needs.
Can TAPCO screens go over arched windows?
Yes. Several of our League City jobs are TAPCO screens on the arched windows of stucco and stone houses, two of them in the photos on this page. Each screen is measured on site and built in a heavy aluminum frame for its own opening, so an arch or an odd size is no problem.
Which shutters still close if the power is out?
Accordion shutters, Bahama shutters, hurricane panels, hurricane fabric and TAPCO screens need no power at all. Roll-down shutters come in manual crank and motorized versions, and if you choose a motor we show you at the estimate how your system is raised and lowered by hand. After Hurricane Ike, League City residents were told restoring power could take four weeks or more.
Do you install impact windows in League City?
Yes. We install Perfexion impact windows with laminated glass and a double lifetime transferable warranty, and ENERGY STAR glass packages are available. See our impact windows page for the styles.
